Some of our favourite gardens to renovate are on the north side of Dublin. From coastal sites in Howth and Malahide to the mature suburban gardens of Clontarf, Drumcondra and Glasnevin, North Dublin gardens come with real character — and often real challenges: sloped and split-level sites, coastal exposure, and period homes whose gardens haven’t been touched in decades.
That’s exactly the kind of project we love. Here’s a look at what a full garden renovation can achieve, through three real Gardenviews transformations.
Malahide: A Modern Multi-Tier Garden Oasis
This Malahide garden is one of our showcase renovations — a sloped site reimagined as a series of connected tiers, each with its own purpose. Terracing and retaining walls turned awkward levels into usable zones: porcelain-paved areas for dining and relaxing, structured planting to soften the hard landscaping, and integrated lighting so the garden works long after sunset.

Multi-level gardens like this are among the most transformative renovations we do. The groundworks are invisible in the finished photos, but they’re what makes a sloped garden feel effortless to live in.

Howth: A Complete Garden Transformation
Howth gardens often come with two things at once: wonderful settings and demanding sites. This complete renovation redesigned the entire space as one coherent garden — hard landscaping, planting and boundaries all working together rather than as separate jobs done over the years.
It’s a good example of why we always design the whole garden first, even when the build is phased. When every element is planned together, the finished space flows — and nothing has to be ripped up later to accommodate an afterthought.

Clontarf: Three Tiers from One Sloped Garden
Like many gardens along the coast road, this Clontarf site sloped away from the house — pretty to look at, hard to use. The renovation restructured it into three distinct tiers: spaces for dining, lawn and planting, connected by steps and unified by consistent materials throughout.
If your own garden slopes, this is the project to look at. Levels aren’t a problem to overcome — handled well, they’re what gives a garden its architecture.

What Does a Garden Renovation in North Dublin Cost?
Every site is different — access, levels and materials all play a part — but as a guide, most complete garden renovations fall between €35,000 and €70,000, with single-zone refreshes from around €20,000 and larger multi-level transformations from €70,000 upwards.
We’ve broken down exactly what each level of investment delivers in our 2026 Dublin Garden Renovation Cost Guide — honest figures, no vagueness. And if you’d rather talk it through, we’ll always give you a straight answer on what’s achievable with your budget.
Serving Malahide, Howth, Clontarf and Across North Dublin
We design and build garden renovations throughout North Dublin — including Malahide, Howth, Portmarnock, Clontarf, Raheny, Drumcondra, Glasnevin, Phibsborough, Donabate and the surrounding areas. Being local matters: we know the sites, the soil, the coastal conditions, and what works in these gardens for the long term.
Every renovation starts the same way — a consultation and site walk, followed by a full design with 3D visuals so you can see your garden before we build it. Read more about our garden renovation service, or browse our recent projects for more inspiration.
