Back Garden & Garden Renovation Ideas from Dublin Projects
Looking for fresh garden ideas to transform your outdoor space? Whether you are dreaming up back garden ideas for entertaining, weighing up garden renovation ideas to modernise a tired plot, or simply gathering inspiration, the right combination of materials, planting and lighting can turn any garden into a high-end outdoor living space. At Gardenviews, we design and build bespoke gardens across Dublin, blending style with practicality so every project, no matter the size, makes the most of the space available.
Below we have pulled together some of our favourite garden ideas, each one drawn from a real garden renovation we have completed. Use these as a starting point for your own design, and follow the links to see the full transformations.
Back Garden Ideas That Maximise Space
A great back garden balances beauty with everyday usability. Our Templeogue garden design is a perfect example: a large back garden finished with premium porcelain tiling, a custom-built fire pit as a year-round focal point, and a low-maintenance artificial lawn that stays green in every season. It is a relaxed, sociable space built for real life.
For a more compact plot, our Portobello small urban garden design shows how clever layout and stylish materials can make even a city garden feel generous and functional.
Garden Renovation Ideas: Luxury Features Worth Investing In
If you are planning a full garden renovation, it pays to invest in the features that deliver both elegance and longevity. Here are the luxury elements our Dublin clients ask for most often.
Porcelain tiling. Sleek, durable and easy to maintain, porcelain is ideal for all-weather use. See the two-tier porcelain paving in our Glasnevin landscape design, which connects different zones of the garden seamlessly.
Artificial lawns. All the lush green of real grass without the upkeep. Our Howth garden design pairs a low-maintenance artificial lawn with porcelain tiling for a polished, practical finish.
Timber cladding fences. Privacy with a warm, natural finish. The stylish timber cladding fence in our Ranelagh garden design frames the space beautifully and complements its contemporary feel.
Bespoke outdoor furniture. From a custom composite bench in Ranelagh to the modern furniture and outdoor BBQ hut and bar in Howth, bespoke pieces make a garden genuinely inviting to live in.
Adding Elegance: Planting, Lighting & Feature Walls
The finishing touches are what give a garden its ambiance. We love incorporating specimen planting and raised planters to add structure and greenery, as seen in the raised planters in our Ranelagh project and the raised seated planting beds in Glasnevin.
Garden lighting transforms a space after dark. The ambient nitescaping in our Glasnevin design highlights key features and creates a warm, welcoming glow. For more night-time inspiration, explore our Gardens at Night gallery.
Feature walls add texture and a striking focal point. Both our Howth and Glasnevin projects use a feature natural stone wall to bring elegance and character to the garden.

The Way It’s Always Been Done at Gardenviews
After more than twenty years designing and building gardens across Dublin, Philip still works the same way he did on day one. Every project starts with a ten to fifteen minute phone call — not with a sales team, but with Philip himself. If it feels like a good fit, he’ll arrange a call-out to walk your garden with you, and that visit costs nothing. In fact, money isn’t discussed at all until you’re completely happy with the proposed plan and design for your garden.
In an industry where long waiting lists have made it easy for builders to charge for quotes or rush the details, Philip has never taken that route. He believes you should know exactly what your garden will look like — and feel genuinely excited about it — before a single euro is mentioned. It’s a simple standard, but it’s one he’s never compromised on, and it’s why so much of Gardenviews’ work comes from word of mouth.
From small urban gardens to large family spaces, our expertise in modern garden design ensures every project maximises space and delivers a high-end outdoor living experience for homeowners across Dublin.
